MY FAVORITE GEAR FOR TRAVELERS

What do you take on your trip? You may ask yourself what do you actually need? When I first started traveling, I would always overpack. Now I don’t think you need much when you travel. It really depends on where you’re going and how long you’re going to be there.

When I went on my first long overseas trip to Costa Rica, I overpacked and made sure I had options for days. At first, it was great having an abundance of things, until I was country-hopping in Europe every couple of days. Then I realized how much of a hassle it was carrying all my bags and accessories everywhere. I found that you can buy most of the things you need in the countries you visit which is part of the experience.

Everyone has different travel styles and that’s okay!

Here’s my favorite travel gear:

  1. Travel Lock

Safety first! If you ever stayed in hostels, you know they provide lockers in the rooms and you need a lock to keep your belongings safe. You can either go with a combination lock or go old school and get a lock with keys. A Travel lock keeps you at ease so you don’t have to worry about someone taking your bags while you sleep or step out of the room.

2. Travel Adapter

As many travelers have learned the hard way, they arrive in a new country only to find out that they can’t charge their phone or laptop. In order to prepare for the different electrical wall outlets, you will want a travel adapter. This is the one I personally use and it even has a USB port. It’s affordable, small, and easy to use.

3. Travel Backpack

When your out traveling long term, your backpack is your home away from home. A reliable, durable travel backpack is a must for budget travelers, minimalists, and backpackers. This is a bag that you will keep all your expensive and personal items when out on the road.

Having a reliable travel backpack is one of the most important items for a traveler and is worth investing in. I always take my backpack everywhere I go and like to feel prepared with all the things I might need. I personally like a large sports backpack over a huge backpacker travel backpack. A sports backpack is more stylish to wear and can be carried around easier over a huge traditional travel backpack.

4. Travel Luggage

This one can seem pretty obvious and most people travel with a suitcase. The key here would be to get a quality built one that spins 360 around in any direction. After carrying a large duffle bag through the streets of Europe, even I wished I had one at the time.

5. GoPro Hero 8 Black

I’m a big fan of capturing moments that will last a a lifetime. Whether it be snapping a picture or a video, I like to have captured memories that I can look back at long after I return home. I like to use my phone often but there are many moments when It would be better to use a Go Pro or a DSLR camera. I like the GoPro 8 because it’s so versatile being lightweight, water proof, and has a high quality camera perfect for the outdoors.

6. Kindle or a Book

Personally, I prefer physical books when I travel. I always have one in my backpack that I can read on a long train or plane ride. I’m big on reading and like to be productive when I’m waiting. However, I can’t argue against the convenience and simplicity of a Kindle.

I’ll admit, hauling around physical books within a packed bag is a pain. With a Kindle, you can pack thousands of books into a single device, ensuring you always have something good to read when you’re in transit.

7. A Laptop

This is more optional on a personal basis. I personally like to take my laptop on a long trip longer than a week. It’s great to use while in the hotel room for editing photos, videos, or doing personal work while on the go. The Macbook Pro 16 is a powerhouse machine that would suit all of your needs while on the go. It’s a long-term investment worth making.
